bb7 is looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer/Physicist to join our client’s growing R&D Team. Our client, located in Fitchburg, WI, is a fast growing company specializing in accessories for spectrometers. This position will be responsible for research, development, and testing of new optical/electromechanical accessories for spectrometers for petrochemical, food, forensic, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, agriculture, government and the material science industries as well as many academic and government institutions around the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the development of optical instrumentation and precise measuring devices
  • Participate in the development of control algorithms, including firmware development and hardware design
  • Participate in the development of communications interfaces
  • Will be required to use schematic capture, PCB layout and routing tools
    • Experience with Mentor Graphics – PADS tool a plus
    • Develop BOMs and documentation
  • Provide documentation for assembly of existing products
  • Assist in software testing
    • C#, .Net and Java coding experience is helpful
  • Use of agency compliance guidelines when designing products (UL, CE, CSA, etc.)
  • Request and organize subassembly diagrams
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineer in support of new products
    • Build and test hardware prototypes, failure analysis, write ecns
    • Assist in defining test specifications
    • Develop documentation for new products including testing, alignment, configuration and BOMs
    • Assist with user manuals
    • Assist in the development of test fixtures to aid in alignment and testing of products

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics and a minimum of 5 years of experience required; Master’s degree in Engineering or Physics and 10+ years of experience desired
  • Knowledge of analog and digital control systems including microprocessors and supporting hardware, PWM controllers, A/Ds, D/As, servo motor drivers and amplifiers
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio development environment and .NET is a plus
  • Experience with USB, RS232 and RS485 communications
  • Automation, optics and amplifiers experience is highly desired
  • An individual that knows how to get things done independently but is also comfortable working with others and communicating clearly through verbal and written skills
  • Client-centric approach to the R&D process, including ability to present and interact with an international client base
  • Ability and interest in international travel is ideal but not required
