Position Title: Electronics Design Engineer

BASIC FUNCTION
The Electronics Design engineer is responsible for designing analog and digital circuits for a variety of products. Responsibilities will include capturing requirements, and translating them into engineering specifications, component selection and qualification, schematic design and entry, PCB layout, and overseeing prototype fabrication. In addition, abilty to troubleshoot and bring up hardware is expected.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform electrical engineering design, analysis & testing for a wide range of electronic and electro-mechanical plumbing products and subassemblies.
2. Work with electronic and electromechanical suppliers and development partners in the management of outside design & manufacturing activities.
3. Work with and provide direction and mentoring to analysts and technicians.
4. Under guidance of senior-level engineering and/or management; juggle multiple projects and priorities, with the ability to switch focus as priorities change.
5. Work with marketing, project manager and other team members to develop specifications for product or process systems from customer requirements.
6. Coordinate activities with other functional areas, suppliers, contractors and consultants.
7. Work with team, suppliers and others to establish project schedules and budgets. Establish and review plans for multiple activities/projects; monitor and take corrective action as schedule impacts occur.
8. Determine technical feasibility of new electronics product concepts.

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS
Supervisory Relationships:
• Reports to Supervisor or Manager – Electronics Engineering
• Receives general direction but exercises discretion as to personal work details.
• May coordinate work to designers, technical writers, analysts, engineering technicians and CAD designers/drafters.

Organizational Relationships:
• Frequent contact with Program and Project leadership, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Marketing, Purchasing and Manufacturing Engineering.
• Moderate contact with the client international divisions in the collaboration & development of global products.
• Occasional contact with Accounting, Consumer Affairs, Corporate Management, Legal, and other company groups as required.

External Business Relationships:
1. Frequent contact with suppliers, consultants, contract manufacturers and product development firms regarding product specification, design and manufacturing.
2. Occasional contact with outside legal and market research firms.
3. Occasional attendance to engineering & product trade shows and seminars to investigate new products, technologies & processes.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program, with 4-5 years of experience.
OR
2. Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program, with 2-3 years of experience.
AND
3. Experience with circuit design and analysis tools, schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Altium is preferred).
4. Experience designing with 8/16/32 bit microcontrollers/processors.
5. Experience in high speed digital systems design
6. Experience with design for EMC.
7. Experience in complete development cycle – requirements to qualification and release.

Job Title: Electrical Design Engineering Manager

Reports To: Senior Director, Product Development
Scope of responsibility:  loT connected products, garage door openers, wet/dry vacs, lighting, power tools

Job Summary:  Create meaningful innovative and product solutions to targeted problems.  Lead engineering of products from ideas and concepts.  Direct, create and manage conceptual ideation, proof of concept building and testing, and prototype design engineering.  Create and manage circuit designs, microprocessor code and functional algorithms, PCB/gerber design files, related IP documentation and supporting assets.  Provide technical guidance of product definition and specification creation

Job Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Generate new designs from ideas and concepts or direction and vision.  Manage iterative design process implementing changes, improvements, and feedback to accomplish objectives.
  • Develop and evolve existing products implementing new advancements, improvements, cost-outs or innovations.
  • Continuously seek meaningfully innovative technologies and contribute to product and technology road mapping process.  Participate in cross functional product team meetings.
  • Responsible for creation and testing of prototypes – directly fabricating bread board / rapid prototype PCB, coding and programming, contracting outsource, or collaboration with manufacturing vendor partner.
  • Manage transitioning conceptual designs to external manufacturing vendor partners, facilitating vendor based engineering’s effort to develop production assets from concept designs.
  • Work crossfunctionally with mechanical engineering to achieve proper integration between electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Work crossfunctionally with product management ensuring full immersion in product essence and strategy.
  • Work with product managers, legal, and vendors to develop and substantiate performance claims to support the marketing of our products
  • Utilize project management tools including detailed timelines and other tools to deliver on-time product introductions
  • Coordinate and execute competitive product evaluations in the laboratory to fully understand the design, performance, usability and industry best practices for the product category
  • Conduct regular product development update or prototype presentations
  • Study competitive market, evaluate product and become an expert in the space.  Stay aware of current trends and notable product or market moves

Job Requirements:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering required, MS degree preferred.
  • 5+ years experience directly designing electrical aspects of elector-mechanical consumer durable products.  Solid understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA)
  • 5+ years direct experience creating complex, mass production-grade, microprocessor based circuits and code relating to electro-mechanical consumer products
  • 5+ years’ experience creating advanced development grade proof of concept PCBs and related code
  • Direct experience with rapid prototyping technologies and services
  • Design knowledge of wireless communication technologies and best practices
  • Thorough understanding of product development, testing and manufacturing processes
  • Solid understanding of value proposition need vs want design prioritization, factoring performance, complexity, reliability, timing and cost

Hardware Test Engineer

Job Location: Middleton, WI
Job Type: Full-time

Be a part of ensuring that Extreme Engineering Solutions products conform to required specifications through environmental and electromagnetic interference (EMI) testing. Create procedures, perform tests and analyze results to determine design capabilities of embedded systems that will operate in rugged environments – including projects for industrial, commercial, military and aerospace customers.

Specific responsibilities include

  • Perform Environmental Qualification Testing (EQT) – including shock, vibration, humidity, storage temperature and operating temperature tests.
  • Perform Power Verification Testing (PVT) to determine total power draw of products in a variety of scenarios.
  • Create and release test procedures, logs and reports.
  • Work with project managers and the sales team in developing custom ruggedization requirements.
  • Use on-site equipment and off-site testing labs to perform tests in accordance with US Military Standards.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of electronic assemblies and computer functionality.
    Prior experience with embedded systems is a plus.
